A Cartoon Christmas 6

After spotting a fake Wile E. Coyote in that last show, I'm wanting to see some classic Looney Tunes, and as luck would have it, look what's up next! It's time to play the music, it's time to light the lights! Wait, that's the Muppets song. What was the Bugs Bunny Show theme? Who knows what heights we'll hit, on with the show, this is it! This is Bugs Bunny And His Friends-Holly-Daze (Peter Pan 8137, Stereo, 1974). This one was also released as Christmas With Bugs Bunny And Friends, I'll drop the cover for that one in below and the full scans are in the download. I think this is the first cartoon record I've shared that actually features the voice of the characters, in this case the immortal Mel Blanc! Shame they couldn't get some actual artists in for the drawings though. The front cover images are sort of OK, but the cartoons on the back cover look nothing like the classic characters. This one is not from Kid Stuff, but one of the other heavy hitters in such records, Peter Pan.

2. Santa-Claustrophobia
3. Holly Daze
4. Twas A Sight Before Christmas

  1. This represents an improvement over the likes of Rainbow BriteTM, but even the sainted Mel Blanc could not get me to listen.

    1. It's better than the artwork might lead you to believe, but still not good.

  2. I can't believe I can still remember this:

    Overture, cut the lights
This is it, the night of nights
No more rehearsing and nursing our parts
We know every part by heart
    (that's all I can recall)

I haven't heard that in what, 60 years? More? Yoiks! Who else is this old??

    1. I was trying to sing that as I was posting this, but I soon realized I was singing the theme to the Muppets. I had to go look it up.

  3. Now this one sounded interesting, so I got it. Back when my Daddy was a kid, he got an album (and I mean the 78 kind) of Bugs Bunny, etc, with three stories therein. Sides one and six were on the first record and so on and so forth. Back when I got into 78s as a kid, I found them and Daddy still may have them, but I'm rambling. What'snew? Thanks, love and praying for y'all.

    1. I think we all had some of those records back in the day. The ones today were all a little after the point I would have had them as a kid though. They're OK to listen to once but I doubt they'll become a Christmas tradition at anyone's house. :)

    2. Josh - wasn't that a line that Capitol put out with Mel Blanc etc.?

    3. Buster, that's the one, although we had it on 78. While I'm here and since I'm replying to Buster, enjoy your blog, as well, keep up the good work, fellers, love and praying for y'all. P.S., haven't checked out Lee's in a while, may need to take a gander.

    4. I think those old ones are much better than these. But that could just be because they're older and harder to find.

    5. Haven't listened to the vinyl album in question (it's on the Yittwo now, however ya spell it), but given the age, etc, I'd agree with you there. Looking forward to more Christmas sharity and I agree with Buster as well, your write-ups are a hoot, love and praying for y'all.

    6. Thanks for stopping by on a cold wintry evening. Well, not really, it was 80 today...

    7. You're welcome, Ernie. Well, it's been in the upper 30s and lower 40s, today and we're supposed to get some slushy snow (looks like mostly rain, from earlier 'til now), with no accumulation. More expected, on Tuesday, but enough of the WX Report, love and praying for y'all.

  4. Yeah, true dat. I remember, the 78 album in question, the first story was where Elmer Fudd was gonna have Bugs for Dinner and he (elmer) meant over for Dinner (or as we'd say, Supper). The Second was Daffy Duck Flies South (remember that via my third grade teacher saying it when she was playing the records, 'cause I brought them in) and the third story was Porky Pig, can't remember what it was entitled. Rambling on as always, love and praying for y'all.

  5. Hi Ernie,
My favorite cartoons when I was able to watch them. This brought back so many memories. Time to get out my collection of Bugs and Pals cartoons. I do not think I dislike any one of these animated characters. The cartoons were true joy to watch and this record was a joy to listen to. Wish there were more of them. Besides, Mel is great in anything I have seen on Youtube.

    1. There are other Looney Toon Christmas related records out there, but this is the only album I can think of. Look here for a Sylvester & Tweety song by Blanc:
