The final entry in our short celebration of The Living Christmas Tree is this entry from spring break capitol of the world, Daytona Beach! Well, former capitol, I guess it's not as popular a spot as it once was when I was of the age when I cared about such things. I think I went once during that time of year, and it was truly crazy. Most of the rest of the year it's a sleepy little village on the water with a lot of old hotels and a million nearly-deserted bars. I guess it gets busy during bike week, and when there's a race in town, but it's strangely sleepy the rest of the time. I guess it's busy enough to support a church or two though, and one of them produced this Christmas record with a fair number of unique tracks for us to enjoy. Please download and give a listen to

No picture of the living Christmas tree, eh?
ReplyDeleteThere's a sad little tiny B&W picture on the back cover. I guess they couldn't get a good shot to emblazon on the front cover. Daytona can be a small, sad place sometimes.
DeleteThe First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach address listed on the back cover, the congregation moved to a new address and demolished the old building in February 2020 to make way for an office/retail development but the space looks like it's still vacant today.

I'm just glad to know they're still around.
DeleteVery interesting. I wonder how many churches called it the "Living Christmas Tree" on their albums and or advertisement?
ReplyDeleteMany, many, many more than you want to listen to. I've already got a few in the can for next year.
DeleteI can't wait, Ernie :)
DeleteI think I have more Lutheran records than Christmas Tree records to be honest. :)
DeleteErnie, all I can say is...
ReplyDeleteContent wise, interesting and different.
The cover is more in line, color wise, as an Easter cover, than a Christmas cover.
It's very rare that there's not a picture of the actual living Christmas tree on the cover.
DeleteHow come you haven't commented on my German share? I figured you'd have something to say about that one for sure.
