I'd never had chestnuts before, but there's always a first time. There may not be a second time, though. A very odd taste. I finished the whole bag though.
We got a bag to share at a farmer's market a couple of years ago and one was enough for me. I don't know what I thought chestnuts would taste like but they weren't what I expected at all. I'm glad I tried them but I don't think I would seek them out again.
if you meet any folks dressed up like eskimos, don't take a picture with them. they'll want money... lots of it. won't let you alone. same goes for mickey mice, superheros, and berts(not ernies).

You have to have them freshly roasted, like they still serve them on many European streets. In Manhattan, they sell old, reheated chestnuts these days. I keep getting moldy ones, too.
You just reminded me that I forgot to get some chestnuts for my turkey stuffing. I've always had trouble getting them completely shelled, but I really like them in the stuffing.

ReplyDeleteI love chestnuts, but they have to be cooked properly. If they're underdone, they're crunchy, don't taste right will definitely not sit well with you.
