The 70s were the heyday of shortening songs for budget records. How could they do this to Fernand Gignac?
ReplyDeleteYeah. :(
DeleteKtel was a Canadian company based in Winnipeg for many years. Winnipeg DJ Bob Washington was the voice of Ktel for years. Seems this christmas comp was going after the quebec market with the stars of the time, as likely wouldn't be sold outside of qc if it's all french.
ReplyDeleteI only recently learned they were a Canadian company. Learn something new every day. :)
DeletePierre Lalonde was a well known quebec entertainer at that point....but had overtones of a slightly over the top lounge lizard recording albums in french and english. I have a cover of him doing the beatles "something" and well....is probably what you expect. He recorded albums in french and english and crossed over somewhat to english Canada as host of the Canadian game show "The Mad Dash" (clips on you tube) and CBC was trying to promote Rene Simard around that time to english Canada giving him his own TV show. It's indeed an interest comp.
DeleteI feel like I have a Rene Simard LP somewhere on the blog...
