More Corporate Chorus

Here's another slab of groovy green vinyl for you, this time from an advertising company. I don't think that the folks singing on this one were actually employees of the company in question, they sound a little too polished for that. And the occasional narration is a bit too slick to be voiced by Fred from the office down the hall and on the left. But maybe. This is called Sing It Outdoors and it's from John Donnelly & Sons. No catalog number, no date, no real info on this one. There's music on both sides this time, but side two isn't Christmas tunes, and therefore I didn't record it. I hope you enjoy this corporate rock, errr, I mean chorus.

  1. Ernie, Wow! Thanks for sharing this! This brings back fond memories that I had forgotten about. They used to play the "Sing It Outdoor" jingle on the radio every year during the Christmas seasons throughout the '60's (at least where I was in Baltimore). I also remember their Billboard adds with that slogan. This is a real treasure. Thanks again!

  2. Is it possible to hear the jingle without getting involved with Usenet?

  3. No Usenet involved. Just click on the name of the LP, that takes you to lix.in where you have to enter the letters you see on the screen. (It usually takes me a couple of tries to get the letters right, so be persistent.) Then you get the Rapidshare link, which you should be able to download for free. It's not the most straightforward system, but it lets me share out an awful lot of files...

  4. Ernie,

What a treat. I too grew up in Baltimore in the '60's and have fond memories of this little jingle that Donnelly Outdoor Adverstising would trot out at Christmas every year. Wow, a corporate entity that isn't afeaid to say the word "Christmas"! Ahh, the good old pre-PC days of yester-year. WCAO really used to rock.

  5. It was a real thrill to discover this lost gem on your Web site! I thought I'd never hear this song again except in my head. Take a look at my memories of this commercial tune here:

  6. I just heard my wife singing this tune the other day. Growing up in East Baltimore back in the 50's and 60's the commercial on TV for Donnelly Advertising was a real piece of Baltimore Americana! I loved watching this on TV as the little angel figures would appear everytime they sang,"Sing-sing-sing-sing". When you saw this on TV as a kid you knew Christmas was close. Don't forget that right after Christmas the next one they had shouted "Happy New Years" Now at 55 years old I would love to see that comercial ran again - just for the retro of it! Thanks for the great memory, "Enjoy" Joe Kopeck of Parkville, Maryland

  7. Thanks for the site.
I grew up listening to "The Green Record" every year at Christmas time. My Grandfather worked for Donnelly and gave each of his children a copy of the record. I have the original record in my collection, and also have a CD recording of it that a family member made about 10 years ago. My children are now also growing up listening to "The Green Record".
Little quotes such as "Christmas knows no bounds in time or space, Christmas comes to everyplace." are forever etched in my mind.

  8. Hey Ernie!! Just awesome...this song popped into my mind just recently, and was such a fond memory of the holiday season...I used to hear it on the radio and it brought such a warm feeling. My friend worked at Donelly, but I never put 2 and 2 together...lol. Having grown up in Baltimore it was a holiday staple. Thanks for finding this and posting.

  10. Thanks much for taking the time to post such a gem; you made the day --- even if it was ten years after you first posted the jingle. Like other posters here, I clearly remember hearing the song before Christmases in the 1960s; never thought I'd hear it again. When was it last used on the air? Thanks again, Steve C. Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

  11. Does anyone know how I could obtain either the vinyl or CD version of "Sing It Outdoors"?
