Here's a little record with a bit of backstory. I've shared any number of Christmas records from Ohio around here. For some reason, they seem to be really common here in Florida, much more so than a lot of other northern states. I'm told it's because Interstate 75 runs straight down from central Ohio to this coast of Florida. That may be true, but I found this on the other coast of Florida, near Interstate 95, which doesn't venture to Ohio as far as I know. I found this near St. Augustine while my wife and I were there on our honeymoon in April of 2025. I don't remember if I found it in St. Augustine proper or one of the other small towns we visited along the coast as we drove south, but I know it showed up on that trip. And I just happened to have it in my possession as we walked home to our B&B from the off-site parking lot. That route happened to take us past a building called The Record, so of course I had to get my picture made in front of the big sign while holding up a record, and this happens to be the record I'm holding. So take a look down at the bottom of this post, and you'll see a proud record collector displaying his trophy from the day's hunt. Still not sure why this building was called The Record (looks like that used to be the home of the
local newspaper...), it seemed to be some low-rent apartments for the folks who work in the tourist industry in that tourist-infested town. It may be the oldest city in the US, but it's a giant tourist trap these days. This is

Thanks for a new share so early in the day?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I need something different to listen to as I start boxing up all my Valentines decorations.
Next will come Easter, followed by, Spring, Summer, Autumn, Halloween, and then...you guessed it, Christmas.
That is my big project today or maybe tomorrow...re-organizing my cellar, again, and again... I need "more" space.
I think they've been posting at 6 am for a long time now, you've just been busy organizing stuff. :)
Deleteprobably sleeping, than organizing, then later I check my computer in the evening. Except today...a day off :-)
DeleteWell Ernie...
ReplyDeleteFirst rate. I can highly recommend this one.
The way I think all choirs should sound.
Another good one you saved for afters.
On my second listen as I am organizing and packing away my Valentine decorations.
Sorry I don't have any Valentine's music for you...
DeleteReminds me...
DeleteI do have Valentine music/playlists,
but as I usually only listen to music when i am out and about. But I was to busy listening to Christmas music :-).
I found another USNavy Christmas album on the internet. So, I grabbed it.
O' Tannenbaum U.S. Navy Band Sea Chanters 1987.
There are plenty of them out there, believe me. Oh, forgot to mention, got your second Christmas card over the weekend. Thanks for that, sorry for all the trouble!
DeleteNo trouble at all. You both are worth more than just a Christmas card.
DeleteI wish you both a happy Wedding Anniversary coming up.
We actually got married in October, but didn't honeymoon until later. A hurricane had just come through before the marriage and things were just too hectic and messed up across the state, made sense to put it off a few months.
DeleteThe record above is from Cuyahoga Falls, which was also the home of Rex Humbard's Cathedral of Tomorrow (now Grace Cathedral).
ReplyDeleteYour great photo reminds me that as a notorious record hound I often get music-related gifts, including a watercolor of an LP from my granddaughter over the weekend. I imagine you do as well.
Yeah, I get stuff like that. My wife drew me a card with a grammaphone on it recently. :)
DeleteBuster, it's interesting that the different churches were even trying to put out albums, just because of the popularity of Rex Humbard? Neat, to have these albums anyways :)
DeleteJonathan - I may have been unclear in that comment. In a previous post we had been discussing the Cathedral of Tomorrow, and this church happens to be in the same city. It's not unusual for churches to issue records - this site has plenty of evidence to that effect, happily so, as you note!
DeleteI'm with Buster, I think every church on the planet has put out a record of themselves singing at one time or another. Maybe not Christmas, though sometimes it feels that way. I think these two just happened to be in the same city.
DeleteGreat essay and additional picture. Looks like you had a great time on your belated honeymoon.
ReplyDeleteWe had a great time, but you always wish such trips could last longer.
DeleteLove the photo of you proudly displaying your "trophy". Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI would have forgotten about it long ago but the wife had it up on her bulletin board until recently, so I was reminded of it almost daily. :)
DeleteThis is an interesting story. The photo, in front of "The Record" store, with your "Trophy" is the cherry on top :)
ReplyDeleteIt's not a store, it turns out it was the newspaper in St. Augustine for a long time, and how it's been refurbished into cheap ugly apartments. I guess they just kept the name since they had to call it something. I've seen a couple buildings with this or a similar name now and my standard comment is that I wish I had that building for my records. :)
