74-Another New Year

Reaching the end of another month and still sharing holiday music, that's pretty much uncharted territory around here. As happened on the last day of last month, I'm going to share out a handful of New Year's tunes with you, though there's only one day's worth this time. It's a nice selection of stuff, though maybe not quite as interesting as those earlier collections. Pretty cool that Les Paul shows up in this set, backing Dick Haymes, we haven't seen him around here this season. And some of the other songs here are good, too, I'm sure you'll enjoy the selection, you just have to hold onto it for eleven months. Once again, all the selections are courtesy of The Internet Archive, your source for quality 78 rips, and a lot of them!

  1. An interesting lot, even with the inevitable Auld Lang Syne and What Are You Doing New Year's Eve. Thanks!

  2. Just our of curiosity, is it possible that you are repeating songs and albums? At least from the posted artwork it makes me feel like it. Kindly respond, because I don`t want to download 74 albums and half of them are repeats. Thank you. Maren

  3. Buster, yeah, I tried to find different songs, but only came up with a few, so I loaded up on the standard issue stuff to make it a full house. :)

Maren, I am not to my knowledge duplicating things, though I can think of a couple of instances where an artist recorded the same song more than once and I've shared both version. For instance, one of the Auld Lang Syne's in this post is an earlier version by the same artist as in an earlier post. You might also notice three different label versions for the same recording in this post. Rest assured there is only one copy of the song in there, but I did want to show you all the label variations. However, there are only so many songs out there, so if you're worried about getting more than one version of a given song, then yes, there are entire posts devoted to single songs...

  4. I don't mean to be snarky cuz this site is just not about the snark but hey, here is Ernie working hard to provide great music, clean copies, background, attention to detail and you're worried about duplicates? my goodness just thank the man for the hard work, comment on the tunes and if your worried, move along..... OK, rant over

Great to hear Dick Haymes and with the most excellent Les Paul Trio backing - wow

Didn't get a chance to comment but fell in love with Scattered Toys from the last batch - don't know why as Arthur was by all means a real piece of work but still, tugs at my heart for sure...

Any how, thanks again for such great stuff - Mac

  5. I think Scattered Toys was the track de jour for a little while, I've got another version or two in the pile, and I don't think I grabbed them all. Always something new to be found out there, you just have to know where to look. :)

  6. Scattered Toys was recorded by a surprising number of singers. I have a few versions of it myself, and even shared one a long time ago.
